Total Beauty Mom: Mother's Day Gifts

Mother’s Day is sneaking up on us and if you’re in need of inspiration, I’ve rounded up fifteen of my favorite gifts to give and receive. Everyone (especially mamas) loves a great pampering sesh, makeup/beauty product, or sentimental gift, but may not always want to spend the extra money on them. Gifts that fall into these categories are always the greatest in my opinion as it’s something that will always be used, appreciated, and cherished because it was gifted! And ICYMI, be sure to check out Melissa’s 2019 Mother’s Day Local Gift Guide here for even more inspiration. There are some really good ideas on there that you don’t want to miss. 1. How Melissa's Getting Her Groove Back

Last week, I took to Instastories and confessed some private musings about my issues with my weight and overall health. The response from you all was amazing! I received such supportive and positive messages and it further inspires me on this journey. For those that missed it, I'll be brief. I had a rough year. I wrote about it at the end of last year. The summary is that my mom died after a long battle with illness, my grandmother died, my dad was hospitalized twice for two serious incidents, my son spent a week in the hospital for something terrifying, we had family drama that happened post-deaths and our family grew divided, and I was in between jobs. That was all in the last 9 months. I

Holistic Mom: Sunday Non-Toxic Nail Polish

It’s hard to imagine, but in college I was the girl with long French manicured nails, Long Island medium style. Now that I’ve adopted a more natural lifestyle those days are long gone. However I still enjoy a good mani/pedi - and I’m completely incapable of doing it myself. When I go to the salon, I try to find the most non-toxic polishes. Previously, the polishes I found were “5 free”, free of the 5 biggest chemicals and additives. I was recently able to try Sundays non toxic, cruelty free and vegan polishes and I am super impressed! These polishes are TEN FREE made without t dibutyl phthalate, TPHP, toluene, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, parabens, and

The 2019 Mother's Day Gift Guide!

It's been quite a year! Since writing last year's Mother's Day guide, I've added another human being to my family. As a mom of two, I am exhausted, fulfilled, exhausted, thankful, in love with my girls, busier than ever, and sincerely cannot imagine how my mother did it with three. I don't like to play the comparison game, so whether you are a mom who works outside of the home, inside of the home (SAHM), a Pinterest mom, an Amazon Prime-kinda mom, ANY KIND OF MOM-- then I'm sure you are very deserving of a nap and a gift (or two) from this list. Whether you are looking for a unique gift for your mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend, this list has you covered! As usual, this guide conta

The Soccer Mom: GOOOAALLLL……Travel Soccer Tryout Time

Is your son or daughter the next Pele or Mia Hamm? Maybe Lionel Messi and Alex Morgan are a more topical reference for the youngster nowadays. Hoboken pre-travel soccer registration has opened. HCFC, or Hoboken City Futbol Club, has been around for almost 30 years. HCFC is partnered with the New York Red Bulls. If you have your child enrolled in any of the Red Bulls clinics or summer camp, you may recognize the coaches. If your child was born in 2012 and 2013, they do not get evaluated, but are automatically on the team while spots are still available. These kids are considered the pre-travel team. Great news — there is NO travel required! Every child must still register for the rec league

The Property Mom: Tips for Updating Your Kitchen on a Budget

The kitchen is often considered “the heart of the home.” It is where families and friends gather to cook, eat, and spend quality time together. In the real estate world, kitchens are often the room that will make or break the sale of a property. However, the average kitchen renovation runs between about $20,000 and $50,000. If you are eager to update your kitchen, but don’t have the budget for a complete remodel, here are some ways you can get a fresh new look for less: Refinish your cabinets: One of the biggest expenses in any kitchen renovation is new cabinets. If your current cabinets are in good working condition but you don’t like the style, consider keeping them and just giving them a

For anyone who doesn't know, Christine Gatto is the talented beauty behind the popular downtown salon, Salon Gatto. The salon is a local favorite according to the Little Hoboken Awards, offers one of the best blowouts in town according to our readers and editors, and is spearheaded by a bad ass mama of two adorable little boys! As a salon owner, your busiest hours are nights and weekends. That means more time away from your family, right? How do you balance the work/mom life with such a busy schedule? Special Needs Mom: Giving In

Have you ever wanted or needed something, but felt shame from society or even from your inner self for getting it? I have. After years of fighting to do it all myself (with as much support as my wonderful, but overworked husband could offer), I finally gave in and got full time ABA therapy for both of my Autistic children. It actually kind of happened by chance. I heard about a company who offered in home therapy. I called them to see if they accepted my insurance and next thing I knew, there was a woman in my home telling me that they could offer 27 hours of care per week. I didn’t believe it at first. I was expecting them to offer something along the lines of what Early Intervention did. S

Summers like that are made at camps like Deerkill Day Camp. Entering its 62nd camp season, Deerkill Day Camp is a sleepaway camp experience – complete with adventure challenges, specialty sports, crafts, and swimming – just without the overnight part. The Holistic Mom: Event Recap

Last Saturday, I attended’s “Tips by Trimester” Pregnancy event. In addition to checking out the latest baby gear (including this awesome new compact stroller), trying delicious lactation smoothies from Majka, and mingling with other moms, we got to hear several different panels on topics close to pregnancy and motherhood. Almost all of the panelists came back to the same two points I think apply to all stages of motherhood Recognize and own your truth. Ask for help. I was struck by these themes, and how much they really apply to all of our motherhood journeys. “Own your truth” sounds hokey, but really the message is to know what’s important to you and stand in it. Passionate about
