Ok, shopping for dad has never been easy. Remember those elementary school fairs where you could buy glass paperweights that said #1 DAD, and white handkerchiefs with a #1 GRANDPA embroidered on the corner? You don’t? Was that just a North Jersey thing? While my dad still appreciates his collection of golf club pens and personalized white sweatshirts, I’ve really tried to step it up over the years. Whether the dad in your life is new, old, young (or young at heart), he deserves something special. After all, he’s not a regular dad. He’s a cool dad. Right? ;) This town is full of amazing fathers and that is why Little Hoboken has compiled an awesome list of both practical and unique options for dad this year. And the best part? They’re all local. Sure there’s always time to order last-minute socks from Amazon Prime, but in case you were going for something different this year, take a look below.

Cufflinks? A keychain? I know what you’re thinking but TRUST ME - this gift for dad is more unique than you think. Why? Look closely.
Loveprint jewelry is made from your child’s fingerprint, which is as unique as it gets! When the new dad in your life doesn’t need any more photos or desktop calendars, and you’re searching for something timeless and meaningful, these truly one-of-a-kind pieces make the perfect gift. The cufflinks shown can be made in silver or with gold bezel and require two weeks to prepare, as do all orders. Need a gift for a pet parent? If the dad in your life just brought home a boxer instead of a baby, Loveprint also has a Paws Collection so you can gift man’s best friends pawprint. Not only do I love the concept and design of Loveprint jewelry, but I feel comfortable knowing I’m dealing with an actual person. You don’t have to send your child’s fingerprint hundreds of miles away, and no mold is made, so your item can’t be duplicated. As a bonus, the owner Camille also makes free housecalls to Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken. Loveprint Jewelry is also offering 10% off ALL orders for Little Hoboken readers!
Ok moms, if you follow Little Hoboken you may have seen Daddy’s Little Dress Shirts before. And there’s a reason for that – we are OBSESSED. Really, I’m obsessed with the idea behind it and in awe of the founder, Maria. Have you ever gone into your husband’s closet and thought, “There’s too many shirts in here. I bet if I take a few for some sewing projects he won’t notice”? You haven’t? Neither have I. But luckily Maria did. This talented and ingenious mama uses one of ‘daddy’s dress shirts’ (or Grandpa’s ;) and turns it into an ADORABLE dress for your little girl. This kind of item is so personal and could also be a special keepsake from a family member who has passed away. Check out Maria’s website for more information and style options.
Many people say that Stevens is the hidden gem of Hoboken. Well people, here is another one. Oh how I love Cheap Maggie’s! This store isn’t exactly hidden (it’s on Washington St.) but I’m always surprised to find people who haven’t been inside yet. I have been taking trips into Cheap Maggie’s for years and it is always a must-do when my sister is in town from California. Why? Don’t they have discount stores out west? Cheap Maggie’s has tons of clothing, outerwear, shoes, sunglasses, random gifts - ALL at discounted prices. These are NEW items that in my opinion, are different from the typical stuff you find at big off-price retailers. You can always find something to buy when you’re in here, and for men, it’s just too easy. I’ve bought my husband countless gifts here… sweatpants, hats, socks… all name brand stuff without driving to the mall. If you need a last minute bathing suit or beach towel, now you know where to go. You’re welcome.
Feel like treating dad to something special? How many fathers treat themselves to high-end, luxurious services like precision shaves (think hot lather, straight razor shave, cool towel treatment)? I know mine doesn’t. What about a mens facial or mani/pedi? Mine.. definitely not. This modern day barbershop is the perfect place to send the dad in your life who could use a little extra pampering in a comfortable environment. While I can’t speak from experience on this one, it sounds like the kind of place a guy could get used to. Complimentary beer is served, flatscreen tv’s hang on the wall, and if dad needs a little grey camouflaging in his old school barbershop chair, he just might be comfortable enough to do it ;)
Packages and memberships are also available
if you’re looking for more than a one-time visit.

Health in Hands Spa is relatively new to Hoboken, and in addition to the usual offerings, they do unique services like Sports Massage and Trigger Point Therapy. Is your husband an athlete? Training for a marathon? Plays in a dodgeball league once a week? Hey, that counts. We’re getting old. For anyone participating in regular physical activity, sports massage can be a great addition to your normal regimen and has plenty of benefits like flexibility, increased endurance, and can help prevent injuries. Does that new dad have pain in his neck or back from holding the baby? Trigger point therapy could be a great gift idea (even better if moms coming too!). The owner, Leyla, comes highly recommended by locals and even caters to professional athletes.
Bonus: Use your HookUp Card for 15% off Any Session or 20% off When You Refer a Friend
I featured these adorable father & son caps in the holiday gift guide last year and I’m writing about them again because it is just too cute for Father’s Day! Local mom Markisha Velazquez designs these cute and trendy hats (along with some limited edition clothing) right here in Weehawken, NJ. All items are made in the USA from 100% cotton or wool. Of course, you don’t have to get a matching set – hats are sold separately in 11 different sizes ranging from newborn to adult. It’s obvious I’m a fan of these Daddy & Me sets (especially for a baby shower gift) and appreciate the love and creativity behind the designs. Many hats are reversible for those inevitable outfit changes early on ;)

Oran Boutique is thee destination for high-end men’s apparel, shoes, and accessories in Hoboken. The selection is great (not too small and not overwhelming either) and the owner, Oran, is so helpful and friendly. He has quite an eye for fashion & detail (just look at their Instagram account) and are offering our readers a great special for Father’s Day. All men’s sport shirts are 30% off! I should add that ALL of their dress shirts are handmade in Italy and cut from performance fabrics. I love their selection of sneakers and am also a fan of their travel bags. Whether you’re helping the dad in your life shop for a new suit, jacket, or just looking for a high quality gift, this boutique is a lifesaver to have on Washington Street.
Bonus: You save $10 off a purchase of $150 or more with your HookUp card!
Ok, so maybe dad isn’t a runner, but is he in major need of socks and shoes without holes? Is he rocking an old white pair of #dadsneakers? Sporting mesh Champion shorts from his college days? If so, it’s definitely worth a trip to New Jersey Running Company in downtown Hoboken. Dads need comfy sneakers to chase kids and run – even if it’s running errands these days. The staff here is so friendly and helpful, so urge dad to get fitted and perhaps try a new brand this time around. While you’re there, browse their selection of mens’ activewear and buy dad a new pullover, tank, or some shorts with a waistband that’s not about to give out any day now.
I don’t know about you, but my car is full of cheap, ill-fitting, and scratched sunglasses. Some are mine, but many belong to my husband. Some have blue lenses, some yellow, and some look like they’ve been superglued back together. It took YEARS of convincing but I finally talked my husband into getting a good, polarized pair of Maui Jims to protect his light eyes. Not only does Eyeshapes carry Maui Jims, but they feature so many stylish brands at various price points, including State, Krewe, Tom Ford, Dior, and more. Does dad wear glasses or contacts? The best part about Eyeshapes is that it’s a full optometric office as well. The two doctors that run Eyeshapes are a husband & wife duo who can provide comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens and eye glass prescriptions, and turn almost any fashionable frame into high quality sunglasses. A pair of high quality glasses is so important and it’s the perfect time of year to stop in this sleek little shop right on 1st Street.
Feel like getting out of the house? How about treating dad to a nice dinner with old school amenities like tableside service and rolling scotch carts? Yes, you heard that correctly. Porter Collins has this beauty of a bar cart rolling around offering 8-10 different scotches. They also have inventive cocktails, punch bowls if you’re feeling extra crazy, a comprehensive wine list, and delicious food of course. This new uptown spot is such a welcome addition to the area. With its spacious dining area, mid-century modern design, regular live music, and raw bar, it’s a great pick for both a date night and family dinner.
Here are some last ditch gift ideas!
Are you lucky enough to have a grill? Pick up a new set of grill utensils (the ones pictured above are from Battaglia’s) and pick up steaks from your local butcher. Done!
No grill? My no-fail plan is to pick up my husband’s favorite mozzarella in town (or “fresh mutz” and no I’m not attaching a picture or giving a name – I’m not about to start a fight here people!) Pick up his favorite bottle of wine or some local beer and done!
Is dad on a diet? Take a nice stroll instead. Now that the weather is finally warming up, walk along the water or pop into a store or two for something fun. Washington General Store always has tons of good gifts, and they carry a lot from local artisans too.
As always, Happy Shopping and Happy Father’s Day!
