The Holistic Mom: Postpartum Hair Loss


Tough days with a newborn can make you want to pull your hair out.

But, what about the days when your hair just... falls out? On its own? And it doesn’t stop?!

Postpartum hair loss is really common and really frustrating. This is, yet, another thing you can blame on hormones. The drop in hormone levels can cause hair loss soon after birth, even up to a year later!

There are sadly no proven “cures” for this, but there ARE plenty of things you can try!

  1. Healthy eating with a diverse amount of fruits and vegetables. In general, getting lots of nutrients and micro nutrients contributes to healthy locks.

  2. Stay hydrated! Important postpartum til no matter what.

  3. Avoid heat styling to protect your hair

  4. Try a volumnizing shampoo like this one.

  5. Try a biotin supplement. This supplement helps promote healthy skin, hair and nails.

  6. Add fat to your diet - healthy fats like coconut oil, fish oil, and avocado help to promote strong hair growth.
