Achieving great skin is both an internal and external effort. Pre-babies, when I had all the time in the world, my health and skin care regimen was effortless. Today, as a new(ish) Mom of twin boys, it is much harder to find time for myself, let alone keep a consistent skin care routine.
When we first brought the boys home from the hospital it took several months to get back into any sort of routine. During that time (and admittedly still some nights today), I was lucky if I had the energy after a long day to even wash my face before bed. Combine that with a general lack of sleep and the ridiculous amount of caffeine I consumed on a daily basis and it took a real toll on my skin. It quickly became visibly dehydrated and to me looked like I had aged a few years in a matter of months. Seeing how quickly my skin deteriorated is when I knew it was time to recommit to my weekly pre-baby pampering sesh and I’m glad I did because now it’s something that I really look forward to all week long.
Every Sunday after my husband and I put the boys to bed, I have a standing date night with….myself. I like to unwind with a warm bath, an at-home facial and a nice glass of red wine. Besides staying out of the sun and always wearing SPF, here are a few of my current go-to's that have helped bring my skin back to life.
Lots and lots of water. I sip as much lemon water as I can throughout every day to re-hydrate my body and skin. Lemons are high in vitamin C which not only boosts your immune system and keeps you healthy so you can chase around those kiddos but also assists in the production of collagen (bonus!)
