The Holistic Mom: Mother.ly Event Recap

Last Saturday, I attended Mother.ly’s “Tips by Trimester” Pregnancy event. In addition to checking out the latest baby gear (including this awesome new compact stroller), trying delicious lactation smoothies from Majka, and mingling with other moms, we got to hear several different panels on topics close to pregnancy and motherhood.

Almost all of the panelists came back to the same two points I think apply to all stages of motherhood

  1. Recognize and own your truth.

  2. Ask for help.

I was struck by these themes, and how much they really apply to all of our motherhood journeys.

“Own your truth” sounds hokey, but really the message is to know what’s important to you and stand in it. Passionate about breastfeeding? Find providers who support your goals. Do you know ahead of time you want an epidural? Make that clear to your OB and don’t allow anyone in your life to make you feel uncertain about your choice.

As moms it is natural to want to do it all - and to feel like we “should”. However, we have probably all learned at some point that asking for help is highly necessary. This can come in any form. Don’t be afraid to ask for help in ways that might seem trivial - someone else walking the dog, cleaning the bathroom, or throwing in the laundry can make a huge difference in your day. Help can come from family, friends, or professionals like a nanny or house cleaner. However you need it, ask!

We can’t do this alone ladies!
